White paper Deinking primers

Suitability of Deinking Primers for UV Web Offset printing on CPET and other Film Substrates

This white paper describes the necessity of deinking to ultimately achieve and maintain a truly circular material stream through recycling. The best example is the use of PET bottles, all of which have the same chemical composition (CPET), with a gradually increasing share of RPET (Recycled PET).

Shrink sleeve labels for CPET bottles are increasingly made from CPET so that the flakes from the labels can remain in the mechanical recycling process without contaminating the recycled material. However, to achieve this, all ink and coating from the shrink sleeves must be removed.

By using a deinking primer, it becomes possible to remove inks that are typically more challenging to eliminate from the substrate. This test demonstrates that the two de-inking primers tested are compatible with web offset UV inks and UV curing, ensuring smooth printing and the desired deinking performance.
